Landscape with Tall Tree

Eugène Rémy Landeau, known as Rémy Landeau, was born on 8 October 1859 in Sèvres, France, and became known for his refined paintings of landscapes, genre scenes and flowers. He studied under the painter Léon Pallandre, whose teaching influenced his academic approach and attention to composition and atmosphere.

Landeau exhibited regularly in Paris, notably at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Français, where his works were presented from the early twentieth century onwards. His paintings reflect the traditions of French academic and post-Impressionist-influenced landscape painting, with a particular sensitivity for natural light, seasonal moods and the beauty of everyday subjects.

His artistic production included landscapes, floral compositions and intimate genre scenes, characterised by harmonious colour palettes, delicate brushwork and a poetic interpretation of nature. He was also recognised within artistic circles as President of the Parisian Society of Flower Painters, reflecting his reputation as a specialist in floral subjects.

In addition to his exhibition career, Landeau achieved international recognition through his participation in the art competitions of the 1928 Olympic Games, where painting was included among the official artistic disciplines. He was also honoured by the French government with the title of Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.

Today, Rémy Landeau’s works continue to attract collectors interested in French nineteenth- and early twentieth-century painting. His landscapes, floral still lifes and genre scenes remain appreciated for their elegance, craftsmanship and sensitive observation of the natural world.
