Marcel Hess was born in 1878 in Brussels. He was a Belgian painter and drawer, known for his portraits, nudes, and floral compositions. Hess received his formal artistic training at the Academies of Brussels under the master teacher Jean-François Portaels, and furthered his studies in Düsseldorf, Germany.

During his career, Hess traveled to Morocco, which influenced his palette and compositional approach. He is notable for his fine and vibrant sensitivity, as well as his rich and distinguished use of colour. Hess often worked in mixed media and enhanced his drawings with coloured pencil, demonstrating a refined technique and an eye for detail.

Marcel Hess exhibited only rarely during his lifetime, and his known exhibitions include a retrospective at the Brussels gallery La Petite Galerie.

He died in 1948 in Grimbergen. Today, his works are held in both private and public collections, including museums in Ixelles and Sint-Joost-ten-Node.
