Kaufmann Karl ( Carl ) was born in 1843 in Neuplachowitz, Austrian Silesia. He was an Austrian painter of landscapes and architecture.

He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Kaufmann Karl travelled and painted in Norway, Holland, Germany (Franconia, Danzig, Königsberg) and Italy (Naples, Rome, Venice). From 1900 Karl Kaufmann constantly lived in Vienna.

He often signed his works using pseudonyms: Byon, B. Lambert, C.Charpentier, Charles Marchand, E. Leutner, H. Carnier, W. Carnier, F. Gilbert, O. Halm, Joseph Holmstedt, R. Merkner, M. Heger, Hobart, L. van Howe, van Hove, R. Jäger, Laarsen, Lundberg, F. Marchant, J. Marchant, C. Poul, F. Rodek, J. Rollin, Taupiac, L. Voigt, R. Benda.

He died on April 27 in 1905 in Vienna. Today, his paintings can be found in private collections worldwide. His landscapes including views of Venice and fjords are loved by collectors.
