Grolleron Paul Louis Narcisse was born in Seignelay (Yonne) on June 11, 1848. He was a painter of military subjects, historical scenes, genre scenes and portraits.

He is best known for his numerous paintings of the Franco-German War of 1870. While his genre scenes and portraits were highly regarded, he became known for his military and historical paintings. Today, those works are the most sought after.

He studied with the French master teacher and artist Léon Bonnart, worked closely with him for many years and was married to the actress Marthe Dufrêne.

Grolleron began to exhibit at The Paris Salon in 1873 and continued to do so there. He was awarded with a medal at the 1886 Salon. He exhibited also at other important European venues, throughout his lifetime.

Grolleron died on October 28, 1901 in Paris. His paintings especially those with military scenes are today the most sought after.
