De Loof Aurel was born in Ghent in 1901. He was a Belgian Impressionist painter of figures, nudes, portraits, landscapes, townscapes and riverscapes.

He attended the Gent Academy of Art and was a pupil of C. Tremerie, J.F. Deboever and O. Coddron. 

De Loof exhibited at the “Pan” in Ghent in 1958 and 1960. He mainly showed landscapes and figures inspired by a stay in Congo. He utilised brilliant colours and bathed his subjects in intense light.

He died in his hometown Sint-Amandsberg in 1982. Today, his works are loved by private collectors.
